Warping in thermoforming
Also called: Warpage, distortion
Warping is dimensional distortion — twist, cup or curl — that appears as the part cools. It comes from uneven cooling and locked-in stresses that release once the part leaves the tool.

Why it happens
- Uneven or too-fast cooling across the part
- Releasing the part from the tool before it has set
- Large flat areas with no stiffening geometry
- Inconsistent wall thickness cooling at different rates
How to fix & prevent it
- Cool evenly with temperature-controlled tooling and balanced airflow
- Hold the part on the tool longer before release
- Add ribs, curves or crowns to stiffen flat panels
- Even out wall thickness so the part cools uniformly
