ABS-PMMA — also called PMMA-capped ABS — marries the best surface in thermoforming to a tough, deep-drawable core: a thin acrylic (PMMA) cap co-extruded over an ABS substrate. Indu Thermoformers forms ABS-PMMA from sheet we extrude in-house for sanitary ware, premium appliance panels, caravan and RV cladding, and any part that needs a scratch- and weather-resistant Class-A finish straight off the tool.

A premium acrylic surface on a tough core

Pure PMMA gives glass-like gloss, scratch resistance and UV stability but is brittle in a deep draw; ABS forms and impacts beautifully but yellows outdoors. ABS-PMMA co-extrudes the two into one sheet — a hard, scratch-resistant, UV- and chemical-stable PMMA cap over a tough ABS core. It deep-draws like ABS and comes off the tool with a Class-A gloss or matt surface, colour matched in the sheet, so there is no painting step and no paint to fail.

Built for sanitary, appliance and outdoor surfaces

ABS-PMMA is the standard for wet-area sanitary ware — bathtubs, shower trays and vanities — where hygiene, easy cleaning and chemical and stain resistance matter. The same properties suit premium appliance panels, caravan and RV exterior cladding, hygiene and medical housings, and outdoor signage and furniture, where its UV stability keeps colour and gloss that plain ABS would lose. Where a part needs outdoor structural weatherability rather than a premium show surface, ASA is the alternative.

What is ABS-PMMA?

ABS-PMMA (also written PMMA-ABS, or acrylic-capped ABS) is a co-extruded sheet — a thin PMMA acrylic cap over an ABS core. It combines the premium, scratch- and UV-resistant acrylic surface with the impact strength and deep-draw formability of ABS.

Why choose ABS-PMMA over plain ABS?

The PMMA cap adds a Class-A gloss or matt surface that resists scratches, UV, chemicals and stains, with colour matched in the sheet — so parts come off the tool finished, without painting, and survive outdoors where plain ABS would yellow and chalk.
