Process & capability

What is thermoforming, and how is it different from injection moulding?

Thermoforming heats a flat plastic sheet until pliable, then uses vacuum and/or air pressure to form it over a mould, before trimming to the finished part. Versus injection moulding it uses far cheaper tooling (typically 10–20% of the cost), delivers first parts in 2–4 weeks instead of 12–16, and handles very large parts economically — making it ideal for low-to-medium volumes and big covers, panels and enclosures.

How large a part can you make?

On our thick-gauge lines — the largest thermoforming bed in India — from wide-web sheet produced on our own extrusion lines.

What is the difference between thin gauge and thick gauge?

The split is around 1.5 mm sheet thickness. Thin gauge (0.1–1.5 mm) is roll-fed, high-speed and multi-cavity — for packaging, trays, blisters and clamshells. Thick gauge (1.5–12 mm) is cut-sheet, one large part per cycle — for covers, panels, liners and enclosures.

Vacuum forming or pressure forming — which do I need?

Vacuum forming is the economical default for most covers, trays and panels. Pressure forming adds compressed air behind the sheet for crisper radii, sharp textures and embossed logos — a near injection-moulded finish — for a modest tooling premium. Send us your part and we will advise.

Are vacuum forming and thermoforming the same thing?

Almost — thermoforming is the umbrella term for shaping heated plastic sheet, and vacuum forming is its most common method (using vacuum to draw the sheet onto the mould). Pressure forming and plug-assist forming are the other thermoforming methods. If you were quoted for "vacuum forming", you are in the right place.

What is heavy gauge thermoforming?

Heavy gauge (thick gauge) thermoforming forms cut sheet from about 1.5 mm to 12 mm thick into large structural parts — machine covers, panels, liners and enclosures — one part per cycle. We run heavy gauge thermoforming on the largest forming bed in India. Thin gauge, by contrast, is roll-fed packaging below ~1.5 mm.

Can you form undercuts, ribs and snap features?

Yes. Ribs, channels, bosses and locating features form directly into the part. Small undercuts, lips and return flanges are produced with articulated tool sections, stripper plates or air ejection. Threads and metal inserts are added after forming onto formed pads.

Materials

Which materials can you thermoform?

ABS, HIPS, ASA, PP, HDPE, PC, PET/PETG, PVC, PMMA, PLA and specialty grades — including FR (UL 94 V-0), ESD-safe, UV-stable, food-contact and recycled-core constructions. See our Materials & Grades page for full spec sheets.

HIPS vs ABS — which material should I choose?

HIPS is the economical choice for liners, trays and packaging — easy-forming, food-safe grades, good stiffness. ABS costs more but brings much higher impact strength, better heat resistance and a tougher surface — the default for covers, housings and parts that get handled. If the part is decorative or food-contact, start with HIPS; if it is structural or user-facing equipment, start with ABS.

Do you extrude your own sheet?

Yes — through our Formpack division. That vertical integration means we control grade, colour, texture and thickness tolerance from the pellet, our lead times do not depend on outside sheet vendors, and a custom grade is a conversation rather than a project.

Do you offer flame-retardant (UL 94 V-0) grades?

Yes. Our Shield FR ABS is UL 94 V-0 from 1.5 mm, and Shield FR PC is halogen-free V-0 from 0.25 mm with CTI 600 for high-voltage insulation. Rail HL3 (EN 45545) options are available with documentation.

Can you supply ESD-safe or anti-static parts?

Yes — static-dissipative trays in the 10⁵–10⁹ Ω band for PCB and component handling, verified per tray with surface-resistance meters, plus anti-static and conductive options.

Do you have food-contact (FDA) grades?

Yes. Our HIPS grades carry FDA 21 CFR 177:1640; APET and RPET food-contact grades are available on request. Tell us the regulation you need (FDA or EU 10/2011) and whether the part is ambient, chilled, hot-fill or dual-ovenable.

Can you use recycled material?

Yes — recycled PET (RPET) sheet, and ABA co-extrusion with virgin skins over a recycled core for up to ~70% recycled content while keeping virgin-grade, food-safe surfaces. We certify the recycled percentage.

Tooling, design & lead time

Do you make your own tooling?

Yes — moulds and trimming fixtures are designed and cut in-house on our 5-axis CNC routers and VMC, in aluminium, FRP, epoxy or MDF. No tool-shop queue, and engineering changes happen in days.

How much does a thermoforming tool cost?

It depends on size, cavity count and complexity, but thermoforming tooling is typically only 10–20% of an equivalent injection mould, and ready in 2–4 weeks. Send a drawing and we'll come back with a firm figure.

How much does vacuum forming cost per part?

Part cost is driven mostly by material (sheet area × thickness × grade), then cycle time and trimming. Because we extrude our own sheet, the biggest slice — material — stays competitive. Send the drawing and annual volume and we'll come back with an exact per-part figure, usually within 24 hours.

How long until I get first samples?

First articles are typically ready in 2–4 weeks, depending on tool class and complexity — compared with 12–16 weeks for injection tooling.

Who owns the tooling I pay for?

You do. Customer-funded tooling remains customer property, documented in the quotation.

What tolerances can you hold?

Parts are made to ISO 2768 coarse class as standard — the realistic tolerance for formed plastics (e.g. ±0.5 mm up to 30 mm, ±2.0 mm at 400–1000 mm). Tighter tolerances on specific critical features are agreed at DFM review. We verify every dimension against your CAD on our 8-gate inspection line.

What files do you need to quote?

Ideally a 3D file (STEP) plus a 2D PDF with critical dimensions. Even a sketch or sample is enough to start — our engineers will advise material, tooling approach and price. See the RFQ checklist in our downloadable guide.

Quality & compliance

Are you ISO certified?

Yes — our quality management is ISO 9001:2015-aligned, with FDA food-contact grades, RoHS/REACH compliance, UL 94 V-0 FR grades and rail HL3 options.

What documentation do you provide?

Certificate of Analysis (COA), Material Test Certificates (MTC), First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR) and full traceability from resin lot to sheet batch to machine and carton. PPAP-level submission packs are available for automotive and OEM programmes.

Can you support automotive PPAP or medical validation?

Yes. We run PPAP submissions for automotive programmes and datum-referenced, fully documented production suited to medical device validation workflows.

Commercial & export

What is your minimum order quantity?

We run everything from prototypes and low-volume batches to high-volume production. Soft tooling keeps small and medium runs economical, so there is no rigid MOQ — tell us your annual volume and we will advise the most economical route.

Where are your factories located?

Thermoforming, tooling, CNC trimming and assembly at Vasai (Palghar district, Mumbai region), Maharashtra; sheet extrusion and thermoforming at Umbergaon, Gujarat — 20 km from Vapi and close to Nhava Sheva port for export. Head office in Malad West, Mumbai.

Can you replace an imported supplier?

Yes — this is one of our most common programmes. We reverse-engineer from your existing part or CAD, match or improve the material specification, and produce in India with COA/MTC documentation — cutting freight, lead time, duty and supply-chain risk versus imports.

Do you export?

Yes — we supply OEM programmes across India and export to North America, Europe and Asia, including repeat multi-year programmes for US customers. Export-grade packing and documentation (COO, material certs, compliance declarations) are standard.
