Heating defect
Uneven heating in thermoforming
Also called: Hot spots, cold spots
Uneven heating leaves the sheet with hot and cold zones. Hot zones over-thin and cold zones resist forming, causing a cascade of problems — poor detail, webbing, thin walls and inconsistent parts.
Why it happens
- Worn, dirty or unbalanced heater elements
- No zoned heater control for the part layout
- Draughts or inconsistent ambient conditions
- Reflective or dark colours absorbing heat differently
How to fix & prevent it
- Balance and profile the heaters to the part
- Use zoned/independent heater control
- Shield the oven from draughts; stabilise conditions
- Adjust the profile for colour and gauge
How Indu prevents it: Zoned, independently-controlled heaters with temperature sensing let us profile heat to each part — and because we extrude our own sheet, gauge and colour are consistent lot-to-lot, so the heating profile stays valid.
