Scorching & burn marks in thermoforming

Scorching is heat damage — yellowing, brown marks, glossiness or surface degradation — where the sheet was overheated, held too long, or sat too close to a heater element.

Why it happens

  • Oven temperature or dwell time too high
  • Sheet too close to heater elements
  • A stalled cycle leaving the sheet in the heat
  • Localised heater hot spots

How to fix & prevent it

  • Dial temperature and dwell to the material window
  • Set correct sheet-to-heater distance
  • Guard against cycle stalls; add sensing
  • Balance heaters to remove hot spots
