Thermoforming vs 3D printing
3D printing builds parts layer by layer with no tool; thermoforming needs a tool but then produces fast, low-cost parts. They complement each other — printing for prototypes and even plug/tooling, thermoforming for volume.

Choose Thermoforming when…

- One-off prototypes and design iterations
- Highly complex geometry not formable in a sheet
- Bridge parts before tooling exists
The verdict: Use 3D printing to prototype and iterate (and even to print plug assists or bridge tooling); switch to thermoforming for any real volume, where unit cost, size and finish all favour forming. We use both together.

Can 3D printing make production parts?
For low quantities or very complex geometry, yes — but per-part cost and finish usually make thermoforming better once you need repeatable volume.
