Thermoformed Hydroponic & Nursery Trays for Modern Growing

Modern growing — nurseries, greenhouses, vertical farms and hydroponic systems — runs on trays. They get wet constantly, sit under UV, cycle through automated handling, and need to produce even results plant after plant. Thermoforming makes trays that hold up to all of it.

Uniform cells for even results

Germination and root development are only as consistent as the trays. Thermoforming forms uniform cell geometry across the whole tray, so every plug gets the same volume, drainage and root space — which is what gives growers even, predictable crops. Formed to the grower’s cell spec, the pockets are repeatable tray to tray because they come off the same tool.

Built for a wet, sunny life

Growing environments are hostile to the wrong plastic:

  • Moisture resistance — trays sit in water and nutrient solution constantly; the material must not absorb it or degrade.
  • UV stability — under greenhouse and outdoor light, a non-stabilised tray goes brittle. UV-stable grades keep their strength.
  • Chemical resistance — nutrient solutions and cleaning between cycles demand a chemically stable material.

HDPE and PP suit these conditions well; where trays are reused season after season, toughness and stress-crack resistance matter, and we specify the grade accordingly.

Stacking and automation

Commercial growing is increasingly automated, so trays need to:

  • Stack and denest reliably for storage and automated feeding.
  • Hold dimensional consistency so automation finds cells in the same place.
  • Survive repeated handling across many cycles in a returnable loop.

We design the stacking profile and trim to tolerance so trays behave predictably on line.

Food-safe where it’s needed

For edible crops and propagation destined for food, food-contact-compliant grades are available — and because we extrude our own sheet, we control the grade and any recycled content from the pellet.

Reuse and sustainability

Durable thermoformed trays used in a returnable loop cut waste versus single-use alternatives, and thermoplastic trays are recyclable at end of life — including back into our own extrusion as controlled regrind.
