Exporting Thermoformed Parts from India: What OEMs Should Expect

Sourcing thermoformed parts from India can cut cost meaningfully — but only if the supplier treats export as a discipline, not an afterthought. The parts have to arrive on time, undamaged, and with the documentation an OEM’s quality system expects. Here’s what a serious export relationship looks like.

Documentation that clears QA

The single biggest reason overseas sourcing stalls is paperwork. An OEM’s incoming-quality process expects the same evidence from an Indian supplier as a domestic one:

• FAIR (first-article inspection) against your drawing.
• COA and MTC — certificate of analysis and material traceability to the resin lot.
• PPAP-level packs where the programme requires them.
• Compliance declarations — FDA food-contact, RoHS/REACH, UL 94 FR ratings as applicable.

Because we extrude our own sheet, material is traceable to the lot, which makes this documentation straightforward rather than a scramble.

Packaging engineered for the journey

A part that survives the factory but not the container is a failure. Export packing is designed for the trip:

• Stacking-optimised nesting to protect surfaces and maximise container density.
• Protective film on cosmetic faces.
• Packaging validated so parts arrive as they left.

Denser, safer packing also lowers freight cost per part — an underrated part of the export economics.

Logistics and location

Our Umbergaon plant sits about 20 km from Vapi and close to the Nhava Sheva (JNPT) gateway, which keeps inland transit short before parts reach the port. For programmes into North America and Europe we plan production and shipping around the ocean lead time, so the schedule is built in rather than bolted on.

Local sales and support

Distance shouldn’t mean dealing across twelve time zones for every question. We maintain local sales and customer support for North American and European programmes, so commercial and technical conversations happen in-region even though manufacturing is in India.
